The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a living laboratory where we investigate the relationship between computer technology, human activity, and society. Founded in 1993, the HCII is a place where we work to understand and create technology that harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. We research how people work, play, and communicate within groups, organizations, and social structures, then we design, create, and evaluate technologies and tools to support human and social activities.
We are hiring a full-time Research Assistant Game Developer to support design, development, and research of cooperative games that can be used to study human machine teaming. We're interested in exploring how humans collaborate, communicate, and teach AI teammates in complex tasks. In order to study this problem, we will be building a series of cooperative games where teammates differ along gradients of asymmetry. For example, players might have different access to information, different access to space, different access to abilities or verbs. You will be collaborating with Dr. Erik Harpstead, a local team of CMU students, and external experts in human-machine teaming, who will help direct development toward broader research project goals.
