Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible, full time professional position responsible for initiating and coordinating tobacco prevention and control activities that focus on (1) preventing initiation among youth, (2) creating and increasing access to cessation programs for adults, and (3) reducing exposure to secondhand smoke and tobacco products. This position serves as a liaison between the county health department, Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida, youth and adult organizations, tobacco-free partnerships, businesses, and other local agencies. This position requires the ability to work independently and to work with both youth and adults. Public speaking, program development, and collaboration skills are required. Marketing and public relations experience is preferred. The person in this position must also have a working knowledge of computers and word processing skills. Position requires travel and some weekend and evening hours. This is a tobacco-free position, and a background check will be required

Utilizes community data regarding tobacco use to educate individuals and groups and facilitates informed decision-making. Determines priorities and activities that coordinate with policy area goals and meet required work plan activities. Participates in National Observances and state campaigns for Tobacco Prevention Control.

Works with community partners and Students Working Against Tobacco to decrease tobacco use and subsequent secondhand smoke exposure by promoting Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida policies within the community. Works alongside local government officials and Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida Staff to advocate for tobacco free policies.

Coordinates the youth prevention component, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), by recruiting and retaining youth in the SWAT organization. Works with local schools, SWAT Advisors, and student leaders to plan and implement anti-tobacco activities. Promotes youth empowerment by increasing their knowledge of tobacco issues and advocacy skills.

In conjunction with Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida, this position works with the PIO to prepare and disseminate news releases and other information to community. Promotes a tobacco-free lifestyle in the community.

Develops a tobacco prevention work plan for assigned policy areas by utilizing the Work Plan Matrix and other materials provided by the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida. Works with policy area managers as needed to ensure workplan activities are met.

In ATACS, completes assigned policy area work activities and is the back up for submitting the Quarterly Progress Updates (QPU) Report. Works with Health Educator Consultant to monitor the tobacco budget and complete quarterly Commitment Change Requests to the Bureau of Tobacco as needed.

Attends and/or coordinates community outreach events such as the National Night Out and the All Moms and All Babies One Mile Color Run. Promotes and engages community partners to participate in Public Health Initiatives. Educates and collaborates with community partners to increase awareness of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) goals and objectives as related to tobacco use prevention and cessation. Participates in trainings and meetings with community agencies to meet CHIP goals. Works with Public Health Services Manager on Community Health Needs Assessment, Strategic Planning, Quality Improvement, and Accreditation processes as needed.

Attends Tobacco Free Santa Rosa Partnership meetings. Works with Health Educator Consultant to implement partnership activities. Assists with advocacy trainings, recruitment, and campaign promotion.

This position is responsible for purchasing card responsibilities and processes purchase requisitions and purchasing card transactions. Also prepares documents for vendors and ensures compliance with state guidelines. This position must follow appropriate local and state guidelines and all applicable laws, using reasonable judgment when making purchases.

Other duties as assigned including but not limited to annual trainings, skills training, and disaster preparation training.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Batchelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in a public health, education.

Preferred:

  • Experience developing written reports and activity narratives.
  • Experience leading community coalitions, youth groups, or similar meetings.
  • Experience planning community outreach.
  • Experience in presenting to groups or small audiences.
