Job Description: The Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling and the Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genomic Data Analytics programs at the Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) seek applications for an Adjunct Faculty to teach one or multiple courses in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. These courses are designed to provide students with exposure and knowledge to fundamental clinical genetics specialties, including professional development and biochemical genetics.
An appreciation for an integrated, team-based approach to learning is especially desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use creative approaches to academic program development, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work effectively in a team environment.
Genetics Courses: Candidates may submit an application to teach one or more of the following courses:
- Professional Development: 1 credit hour, meets 5 times per semester (Fall 2024)
- Biochemical Genetics: 1.5 credit hours, meets 15 times per semester (Spring 2025) Education and Experience:
The successful candidate must hold a master's degree in genetic counseling and be certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, or they must possess a doctoral degree with relevant genetics expertise. Experience in teaching is highly desired. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a team environment and show a strong commitment to a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Individuals will be responsible for planning and teaching a curriculum that supports students' integration of knowledge, skills, and experience to prepare them for future jobs in genomics and bioinformatics. This may include, but is not limited to the following:
- Teaching and coordinating the course
- Designing active learning activities to build technical skills Developing formative and summative assessments
- Other duties as assigned. Ability to drive locally. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
